Even the Fragile can be Mended

This piece was created with the understanding that the fragile cherry wood spokes might break through the weaving process. Each time a spoke broke a new piece was created as a splint out of walnut. Before adding the splint the walnut wood was inscribed with the phrase "even the fragile can be mended" in graphite. As I continued weaving, the graphite text was picked up by my hands and spread throughout the piece.
Series of Form and Movement
In this small sculpture series, form and movement are pushed to the material limits, often beyond the limitations of the fragile wooden spokes used. When entering these pieces materially, breakage is expected. It is through the mending of the piece where the written text begins to embed itself into the entire sculpture through each movement.
